Just heard John Hughes died.
If you're between about 33 and 43 and grew up in America then chances are John Hughes had an effect on you and the way you saw the world at that time. He was THE writer/director of the 80s. For those of us either in high school, jr high... or soon to enter, John Hughes played to us... and pretty much all of us loved it. He was kind of the Judd Apatow of his day, but less raunchy and a bit more subversive. Take a look at this run between 1983 and 1990.
1. Home Alone (1990) (written by)
2. Christmas Vacation (1989) (written by)
3. Uncle Buck (1989) (written by) and directed
4. The Great Outdoors (1988) (written by)
5. She's Having a Baby (1988) (written by)and directed
6. Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987) (written by)and directed
7. Some Kind of Wonderful (1987) (written by)
8. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) (written by) and directed
9. Weird Science (1985) (written by) and directed
10. European Vacation (1985) (screenplay) (story)
11. The Breakfast Club (1985) (written by) and directed
12. Sixteen Candles (1984) (written by) and directed
13. Vacation (1983) (screenplay) (short story "Vacation '58")
14. Mr. Mom (1983) (written by)
I've probably seen each of these movies at least 7 times each... some, like Ferris Bueller, Breafast Club and Vacation... probably more like 15 times. She's having a baby has the best ending credits sequence in movie history as far as I'm concerned and was one of Alec Baldwin's best performances. Ironically, Cameron's house from Bueller is now on sale - complete with the raised garage from which the classic Ferrari plummeted... we covered it
in MainStreet.
Christie Brinkley in the Ferrari in Vacation.
He was good to us.
